Is buying a repossessed car at auction risky?

The idea of a repo car makes me a little nervous - I associate them with neglect or hidden problems. Is buying repossessed at auction actually riskier than buying a regular used car?

The risk is mostly about unknown maintenance, which is why the multi-point inspection report matters so much. A repo with a detailed, clean report plus a post-delivery inspection window is arguably less risky than buying a private sale with no report at all. Read the report, verify after delivery, and you're well protected.

Condition on repos varies more than on trade-ins, so the report is everything. If the report is thorough and honest, the risk is manageable. If it's vague, skip it.
